From This Project Onward:
Discovering My Design Path
This project marked an important moment in my journey, it was my very first academic project during my initial bachelor’s before I made a bold decision: to switch paths and follow what truly inspired me, Industrial Design.
FoodAlarm was not only my first real-world design challenge, but also the moment I realized where I belonged: in the space of designing, creating, and improving everyday experiences for people. It was my first dive into UX design, and since then, I’ve been continuously building and refining my skills in the field.
Looking back now with a designer’s eye, I clearly see areas I would approach differently. But that’s exactly why I’m proud of it, it represents my starting point, the raw foundation of who I’ve become as a designer today.
In this project, my contribution focused on concept development and user experience, while my peers from other engineering disciplines handled the technical implementation. Together, we brought the idea to life, and for me, it sparked the beginning of everything.
The challenge
How might we reduce household food waste in a way that is simple, accessible, and encourages healthier habits?
Every year, millions of tons of food are wasted, contributing heavily to COâ‚‚ emissions and deforestation. Households play a major role, often due to poor planning and lack of awareness. Our goal was to design a solution that tackles this problem in an intuitive and impactful way.
The Concept
Food Alarm is a mobile app that keeps track of your food inventory and expiration dates, suggests recipes using your leftovers, and enables smarter grocery shopping through a shared household grocery list.
It combines sustainability and simplicity into one accessible platform, helping users save money, eat better, and reduce food waste.
